My Journey Here
I take pride in making students feel safe and seen, and in helping parents feel supported with clear guidance and helpful resources.
I studied Philosophy at the University of Nottingham which was the most incredible 3 years exploring concepts that still baffle me today! However… I still found myself gravitating toward the music department. I managed a university choir and performed in the university’s opera society, all the while still taking lessons along side my studies. It was that joy led me to pursue further vocal training: first a year on the Advanced Performance Course at Chichester University, and then an
MMus at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Vocal Performance .
Music college was an amazing experience, but I constantly felt like I was catching up. As a postgraduate, I placed huge pressure on myself to make the most of every moment that 18 months of tuition had to offer. There was this unspoken sense of a ticking clock — I had to reach a certain place by a certain age, land auditions, "make it." Unsurprisingly, I never found myself where I thought I should be. After college, I performed in opera choruses for five seasons, performing in productions of Un Ballo in Maschera, Candide, Madame Butterfly, Die Fledermaus, The Marriage of Figaro, and Sweeney Todd. These were formative experiences — I loved singing, but I didn’t trust my technique — and that made everything harder.
At the encouragement of a friend, also a singer, I took on some pupils and began teaching. Little did I know how much joy this would bring! My experiences as a young professional singer — from the thrill of opera chorus work to the crippling fear of not feeling "enough" — gave me huge empathy for developing singers. I know what it’s like to crave security in your technique, to feel lost in theory or sight-reading, and to question your place in the musical world. That lived experience is what grounds my teaching: it's practical, compassionate, and never assumes a perfect start! I knew I could make a difference!
Over the past 6 years, my teaching work has grown exponentially. I’ve taught more than 400 pupils at stage schools, in private lessons, and across mainstream education. I currently work as a Visiting Music Teacher at Edgeborough School, where I teach singing lessons aligned with ABRSM and Trinity syllabi. I also teach LAMDA (Speech & Drama) at St Edmund’s School in Hindhead, where I’ve supported students up to Gold Medal with a strong track record of Distinction results.
What’s Next?
Voice Venture is growing — just like the voices I work with!
I’m currently deepening my training with Estill Voice Training, and I’m passionate about eventually supporting more adult learners, returners, and curious creatives who want to reconnect with their voice later in life. I recently achieved my Figures Proficiency which has been truly life changing! The next step is becoming an ESTILL Master Trainer… it’s tempting! Watch this space…
I also write a monthly voice newsletter called The Voice Letter, which explores voice care, seasonal reflections, inspiring performances, and the ongoing adventure of being a person who sings.
Every voice journey is different. Whether you're starting fresh, returning after a break, or simply exploring what your voice can do — your Voice Venture matters. It can bring confidence, connection, and real joy. I'd love to support you on yours.
